Scripture & Record collects as little as it can. You do not need an account to read anything here, and no part of this site asks what you believe.

Who we are

Scripture & Record is an independent publication at scriptureandrecord.com/. For anything in this policy, write to contact@scriptureandrecord.com.

What we never collect

No module on this site collects a religious affiliation, a denomination, a church, or any statement of faith. Quizzes measure knowledge of a text; they do not ask about belonging, and your answers are not sent anywhere. The interactive modules run inside an isolated sandbox that cannot read cookies or site data, and the only messages they send back to the page are the module’s height, its progress, and whether it finished.

Server logs

Like any website, this one runs on a server that records requests: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page and the browser’s user-agent string. These logs exist for security and for diagnosing faults, are retained by our host for a limited period, and are not used to build a profile of you.

Cookies

Reading this site sets no cookie from us. WordPress sets cookies only if you leave a comment or log in as an editor. Interactive modules may store your progress in your own browser’s local storage so that a quiz can be resumed; that data stays on your device, is never transmitted, and clearing your browser data removes it. Third parties do set cookies on this site: Google, for advertising and for analytics. Both are described in the two sections below, and both are governed by the consent notice.

Advertising

This site is funded by display advertising served through Google AdSense, and by nothing else: there is no direct ad sales, no sponsored content, and no sale of reader data to anyone. Advertising is being brought online now, and from the moment an ad first appears on a page everything in this section applies to it:

  • Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other sites.
  • You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, and out of third-party vendors’ use of cookies at aboutads.info/choices.
  • Readers in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland will be shown a consent notice through a Google-certified consent management platform before any non-essential cookie is set, and may withdraw or change that choice at any time from the same notice.
  • Advertising is never placed inside an interactive module, and never on a page thin enough that an ad would be the main thing on it.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4, connected through Google’s Site Kit plugin, to count visits and see which pages are read. Google Analytics 4 does not record full IP addresses, and nothing it collects identifies you to us by name. It is covered by the same consent notice as advertising: where consent is refused, Google’s consent mode applies and no analytics cookie is set. Google Search Console and PageSpeed Insights are also connected; both report on the site as a whole rather than on your visit, and neither sets anything in your browser. Any further analytics service will be named here before it starts collecting.

Email

If you write to us, we keep your message and address for as long as it takes to deal with it, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case the matter comes back. We do not add correspondents to a mailing list. If a newsletter is launched, it will be opt-in only, will name its provider on the sign-up form, and every message will carry a one-click unsubscribe.

Affiliate links

Some pages comparing study Bibles carry affiliate links. Where they do, a disclosure appears above the link, rendered by the server so that it cannot be removed from the content. Following such a link may let the retailer set its own cookie under its own policy. No edition is included in a comparison because it pays a commission, and editions with no affiliate programme are judged by exactly the same published criteria.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict its processing, and to receive a copy. Write to contact@scriptureandrecord.com and we will respond within the period your law requires.

California residents. Under the CCPA as amended by the CPRA you may request disclosure of the categories of personal information collected, request deletion, and opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information — a definition broad enough to include cookie-based personalised advertising. To opt out, use the consent notice on the site once advertising is live, or write to us. We do not knowingly sell personal information, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Printable quizzes intended for classroom use are static documents and collect nothing. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes — a new advertising partner, a new analytics service — will be described rather than slipped in.
